FRANCE EXCELLENCE PhD Scholarships Program 2024-2025 for Teaching/Research Assistants at Jordanian Universities

The deadline for this application is: February 28, 2024.
All disciplines are invited, with a preference for the following fields:
- Sciences and engineering: digital sciences, IT, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, energy engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, earth sciences, environmental sciences and climate change, agriculture, etc.
- Social sciences and humanities
- French as a Foreign Language
Eligible Candidates
- Jordanian citizens
- Not more than 40 years old at the beginning of the PhD scholarship, November 1, 2024
- Hold a master’s degree before beginning the PhD scholarship, November 1, 2024
- Teaching/Research assistants with a fixed contract at a Jordanian university, who have a master’s degree, would like to earn a PhD, and return to their home university in Jordan to continue their academic career at this university.
Language proficiency:
- Candidates who apply for a PhD in English: IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC (depending on PhD requirements)
- Candidates who apply for a PhD in French: minimum level of DELF B2 is required or higher depending on PhD requirements
The PhD scholarship includes:
- A monthly allowance for 3 years, starting on November 1, 2024 (the allowance for 2023 was 1,588 euros/month);
- Social security coverage for the duration of the scholarship;
- One round-trip ticket, between France and Jordan, economy class, with transfer (train/bus) to the city of studies;
- Priority access for accommodation in a university student residence; and,
- National tuition fees in universities recognized by the French Ministry of Higher education.
- Any additional tuition fees, other than those mentioned above, will be covered by the selected scholar.
- Please note that no expenses incurred by an accompanying family member (or members) of the selected scholar are covered.

THE APPLICATION MUST CONTAIN:
- A copy of the applicant’s passport
- Applicant’s curriculum vitae (CV) in French or in English
- An official document issued by a Jordanian University attesting that the candidate is a teaching / research assistant with a fixed contract at that university, that his/her university permits him/her to carry out his/her PhD in France, and that the candidate will have a position at that university when he/she returns to Jordan after completing his/her PhD, to continue his/her academic career.
- A copy of all degrees: o A copy of Tawjihi certificate or its equivalent, with transcripts; o A copy of the bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, with transcripts; and,
o Master’s degree transcripts with a copy of the master’s degree diploma, if it has already been obtained.
Certificates of language level: o Candidates who apply for a PhD in English: IELTS, TOEFL or TOEIC (depending on PhD requirements at host institution).
- Candidates who apply for a PhD in French: minimum DELF B2 or higher depending on PhD requirements.
An admission letter from a PhD supervisor in France and/or proof of contact from the university where the candidate intends to do the PhD.
A description of the PhD project in French or in English (2 pages maximum) specifying the subject area, a brief review of the literature, statement of a research problem and the research methodology to be used, as well an expected timetable for completing the PhD.
A motivation letter with a description of: o Candidate’s motivation and interests, regarding the doctoral field of study to be pursued in France;
- Candidate’s reasons for choosing France to complete a terminal degree; o Candidate’s professional plan and/or research agenda, after completing the terminal degree in France.
The application documents must be in French or English (any document in Arabic must be translated).
Any incomplete application will not be reviewed.

Step 2
Preliminary round of review of the applications will be conducted by the Scholarship Commission of the Cultural Section of the French Embassy in Jordan using the following criteria:
Academic excellence;
Relevance of the PhD project; and, – Motivation of the candidate.
Step 3
Finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Commission jury and will be assessed on:
Presentation and relevance of the PhD project;
Knowledge of the subject matter;
Professional project of the candidate; and,
Language proficiency in French or in English based on the PhD requirements.
The jury will then rank the finalists and award the PhD scholarships on that ranking.
ATTENTION: The awarding of a scholarship is contingent upon full admission to a PhD program in France for the 2024-2025 academic year.
