The TTU Intensive Arabic for Non-Natives

Main Guidelines
I. Course Levels:
The summer Intensive Arabic program runs roughly from June 1 through July 31 (seven weeks), offering Modern Standard Arabic at FOUR levels: Basic (at least 25 hours weekly), Intermediate (20 hours weekly), Advanced (15 hours weekly), and Advanced High ( lectures and close study of complex-in-demands selected texts). The program additionally offers Survival Jordanian Colloquial (around 28 hours or less).
II. Course Details:
All courses are offered along the following guidelines:
- Classes meet daily (Sunday-Thursday)
- Class consists of 3 students minimum and 8 maximum
- Instructional materials include curriculum/textbooks used in US academic institutions including TTU
- Pedagogical objectives include developing the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and grammar.
- Class starts on the first day with orientation to familiarize students with the local culture, dos and don’ts, and other useful information about city and country
III. Housing:
Accommodation to be secured by TTU as follows:
- Faculty houses/apartments in acceptable living conditions, equipped with modern amenities, including the Internet, phone line, western-style bathrooms, etc.
- Room occupancy 1 or 2 people per room maximum
IV. Transportation:
To be made available by TTU and it includes:
- Transportation between airport and residence
- Transportation between class and residence on class days
- At least three field trips to historical sites and other tourist sites
- An assigned cultural liaison or advisor whom students can contact for questions about food, places and other non-curricular activities.
V. Cost:
To be determined according to official exchange agreement and includes:
- Tuition (to be determined )
- Housing (to be determined)
- Transportation (to be determined)
For the first summer, up to 6-8 (?) students will be fully funded by TTU.
