Department of Chemistry and Chemical Technology was established in 2005 to offer two bachelor programs on chemistry and chemical technology and meet the demand for skilled chemistry teachers, technicians and researchers in Jordan and neighboring countries.
It has a teaching staff of 13 members specialized in the fields of organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and environmental chemistry in addition to a group of highly-qualified teaching-assistants and technicians. The number of faculty members is expected to grow in order to fulfill teaching requirements and meet the increase in the number of students.
The department includes five laboratories, each of which has room for 20 students. The labs are: 1. Organic chemistry lab 2. Inorganic chemistry lab 3. Computer lab for chemical applications. 4. Automotive analytical lab 5. General chemistry lab. The department sponsors doctoral candidates in all areas of chemistry. Among its short-term plans, the Department of Chemistry hopes to start a Master’s degree program on chemistry and chemical technology.
