The Department of Natural Resources and Chemical Engineering was established at Tafila Applied University College / Balqa Applied University in 1999 and continued to work following the establishment of Tafila Technical University in 2005. This department includes three different specializations: mining engineering, geological engineering and chemical industries engineering. The establishment of this department came into existence because of the concentration of raw materials, mineral resources and groundwater in the southern region of Jordan. Additionally, it supports the national economy and provides the local market with qualified engineers to exploit natural resources and underground water. The establishment of such a department came to support local industries and disclose mineral raw materials and alternative energy sources, such as oil shale. The Department of Resources Engineering is equipped with the latest scientific laboratories.
