As
the first president of Tafila Technical University
(TTU), I am honored that I was royally decreed and
entrusted to lead this newly established technical
institution to enhance the proud tradition of
academic excellence and accessibility that the
Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has embraced over the
last four decades.
As early as
1970s, Jordan's quality instruction, affordable
tuition and unique Mediterranean climate have
provided a stepping stone to success for thousands
of Jordanian and Arab students. The
innumerable achievements of Jordan's educational
system (Faculty, staff, and graduates) have
rewarded Jordan with reputation as a "country of
opportunity". The TTU is not an exception; it is a
new avenue of technical instruction that Jordan
has sough to embrace in response to the rising
needs of the local and regional market
demands.
Tafila
city, with its 80,000 inhabitants, located in an
area which is rich of its natural resources,
potash, cement, oil shale, mines etc. It is only
180 km south of Amman, the capital. TTU was
founded following a royal decree on the 17th of
January, 2005, as a successor to Tafila Applied
University College, which was established in
1986 before affiliating it with al- Balqa' Applied
University in 1997. TTU is the ninth public
and the first technical university for higher
education in the Hashemite Kingdom of
Jordan.
As a
technical university for higher education, TTU was
founded to employ and develop technology in its
curricula, instruction, labs, and workshops,
as well as in its administrative procedures
related to admission, registration, and library;
it also boosts higher education, scientific
research and serve the local community by
providing it with skillful graduates, research
findings in various academic fields; It is meant
to supply some important and expensive investment
projects in the region with highly qualified
experts. These include but not limited to cement,
potash and phosphate enterprises, tourism,
wild-life reserves, and some
others.
At
present, the university is undergoing tremendous
expansions in infrastructure constructions and in
all academic specializations to achieve its
mission in providing highly technical instruction
for the students, fostering scientific research,
and serving the local
community.
Currently,
the university comprises five colleges, two
deanships and five scientific centers; four of the
colleges, Engineering, Sciences, Educational
Sciences, Financial and Administrative Sciences,
award bachelor degree in 22 academic
specializations and a postgraduate diploma in
Education. The Technical Intermediate Community
College awards associate diplomas in 13
specializations. Additionally, the Languages,
Computer and Information Technology,
Community Partnership, Teaching Staff
Development and Evaluation, and the National
Center for Oil Shale Studies are recently
established to supply some important and expensive
investment projects in the region with highly
qualified experts and research findings. These
include but not limited to cement, potash, and
phosphate enterprises, tourism, wild-life
reserves, and some
others.
Our TTU
excels in the community facilities provided to
students. Among these are state-of-the-art-labs
and workshops for engineering, computer, physics,
chemistry, language learning and teaching, and
electronics.
As
the TTU enters its second year, my charge from the
Board of Trustees chaired by Prince Ali Bin Naiif
is to lead the university to a new avenue as the
permanent public four-year technical university in
the country. I hope you will find this web site
satisfactory for your interests and wish you an
